While designing the poster we have to focus on a few things:

1. Attention – jump out from the wall.

If there’s one simple sales formula that everyone in a performance-based position should know, it’s AIDA. The four-step formula – attention, interest, desire, and action – has been used as the basis of thousands of successful movie advertising campaigns.

If there’s one simple sales formula that everyone in a performance-based position should know, it’s AIDA. The four-step formula – attention, interest, desire, and action – has been used as the basis of thousands of successful movie advertising campaigns.

The first step and the one most important for designers is attention-grabbing the attention of passers-by and encouraging them to look.

This doesn’t have to be achieved with provocative pictures or flashy graphics, although given their advantage at grabbing attention, it’s no wonder Hollywood’s turned to them en masse.

By using the film’s characters or a major plot point, designers can establish some level of the plot while still gaining the attention of anyone that views the poster.

One common question I get, is how a website job should be planned and executed – what are the steps?
The following is a quick outline of the process that I have been using for my  with good success – at least
most of the time.

The following steps I always prefer to design my Website projects:

Figure out what the focus of the website will be.

This is the first thing you want to define clearly before any other step is taken. You need to decide what the main purpose of the website is - what you want to focus on in terms of a subject.

It is important that you define this step as clearly as possible because a website’s focus has a major impact on the whole project; this is the ‘foundation’ of the site.

For example:

A web store.
Information hub for established clients.
Branding website.

What specific features do you want on the website?

SPECIFIC WEBSITE FEATURES

This builds off of the first step, where now you look at actual features that you need to implement.

For example:
A shopping cart for an online store
A password-protected section of the website
Again, the more detail the better.

Create a list of sections for your website and give them a hierarchy of importance.

MAP OUT THE MAJOR SECTIONS OF THE WEBSITE

With the first two steps completed, you’re ready to actually start mapping out the major sections of the website; drawing out quick diagrams of the website is a useful way of doing this.

A diagram can easily show the hierarchy of a website and how the various sections are related to each other.

Write out your content and finalize it.

WRITE OUT YOUR FINAL CONTENT

This part is usually left to the end … then people wonder why they have to go back and rethink the structure of the site.

All websites are driven by content; it’s the content that makes a site effective and successful. As such, this part of the process is arguably the most important, so you need to pay attention to it.

Find a style/look that meets your website’s and your industry’s requirements.

FIND A STYLE / LOOK FOR THE WEBSITE

At this stage of the process, you are ready to start looking at the visual aspect of the site – the design. You have a few options:

Hire a graphic designer/web designer
Come up with your own design – I’m assuming you have some artistic and design experience.
Buy yourself a website template and save time and money.

Build the website.

Yes, I know it seems impossible but you can finally start building the actual site at this point!

With the above questions answered and steps completed, you’ll find the process of building the website (actually writing out the code,) is much easier and you will have reduced the chance of having to go back and redo things.

Evaluate the website and make the required changes/updates.

Once you've built the website, you should walk away from it for a day or two. This will allow you to come back and evaluate it with fresh eyes. It might also be a good idea to get someone who has not worked on the site, to take a look as well.

Here are some of the things you should be looking for:

Clean easy to update design/structure.
Good usability in the design - and all that implies.
Fast loading 'light' pages.
Intelligent use of technology - using Flash when it makes sense not because you want a 'cool' intro!
The website’s ability to convey the meaning/message of the website quickly if not instantly.

Go live – register a domain, find a host, upload the website.

If you’ve passed steps 1 to 7, you know you're ready to show the world the website. All that is left to do is go live:

Register a domain
Find a hosting company
Upload the website

NOTE: You could actually register the domain and find a hosting company after you’ve completed the first 4 steps. Sometimes it makes sense to register your domain name before you design the website; this is because you may want to integrate the domain name into the design.

CONCLUSION

If you follow these steps, and not let pressures from your clients (or anything else) sway you, you’ll find yourself working more quickly and under less stress, while delivering a better website for your client – everyone wins.

Thank You!

Are you planning to design a brochure? but you are confused about how to start?

Don't worry Here, we bring you a series of pro tips that will make the difference between creating a good brochure and a great brochure design.

1 know your purpose before you start

When you're are thinking about how to design a brochure, start by asking clients why they think they need a brochure.
Then ask them to define their objectives. Sometimes they just want to update their brochure. If they've come up with a brief for you,
take a step back from that and look at exactly what it is they're trying to achieve.

2 Limit your fonts

You don't need many fonts when you're thinking of how to design a brochure – just a heading, subheading, and body copy font. But we see it all the time: people think they need to find a headline font nobody has ever used before. Clients will usually take the lead on fonts as they'll often have a corporate identity already in place.

03. Take stock of your paper stock

Talk about paper stock before you put pen to notepad. If you're working for a client, ask if it has to be the standard A4. Find out if they've considered using uncoated paper.

04. Get your copyright

A great copy is often the most undervalued element in brochure design. A lot of people don't understand that the copy needs to be considered as part of the overall design concept. At the early stage of any brochure design project, experiment with the copy to see if it needs reworking. Headlines aren't something to just drop in later.

05. Put readers first

When thinking of how to design a brochure, keep the end purpose in mind. Is this a brochure that's going to be posted out in response to requests made on a website? Is it a giveaway at an exhibition, or a leave-behind brochure? When someone opens it, what will it say to them? Design for that person, not for yourself.

06. Use simple statements

You want to know how to make a brochure that stands out, right? Sometimes the simple ideas are the best. If a client has decided they want lots of cliched images to get a particular point across, it's probably better to scrap them. The solution might be to use a typographic cover instead and make a very literal statement about what they want to say.

07. Set pen to paper

Break out the layout pads and try drawing and sketching ideas to start with. Share all your ideas among everybody, rather than taking a brief away for two weeks and then presenting three concepts to see which one the client hates the least.

08. Keep what works

Don't try to be wacky or different just for the sake of it when you're thinking of how to design a brochure that gets noticed. For example, most designers use the same 10 to 20 fonts across a lot of the projects they work on. There are sound design reasons why Helvetica is used a lot, and why Rockwell is a good headline font.

09. Make a good first impression

Brochure designs need to fit in with what the client does as a business. Charities don't want luxury brochures that'll make people think they've spent a lot of money on them, whereas a new product might need a brochure that looks amazing on an exhibition stand.

10. Get the imagery right

To make a product brochure pleasurable to flick through, you need good photos. If you're using stock imagery – budgets don't always stretch to a photo-shoot – try to find pictures that don't look like their stock images. Never cut corners

Chhath is an ancient Hindu Vedic festival historically native to the Indian subcontinent, more specifically, the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and the Madhesh region of Nepal.
The Chhath Puja is dedicated to the Sun and his Sister Shashti devi/ Chhathi Maiya/Katyayani form of Durga/Devasena in order to thank them for bestowing the bounties of life on earth and to request the granting of certain wishes. Chhath does not involve any idol worship. This festival is observed by Nepalese and Indian people, along with their diaspora.

The festival is to worship the sun God and the rituals are rigorous and are observed over a period of four days. They include holy bathing, fasting and abstaining from drinking water (Vratta), standing in water for long periods of time, and offering prasad (prayer offerings) and arghya to the setting and rising sun. Some devotees also perform a prostration march as they head for the river banks.

Wish you all happy Chhath Puja
